چکیده

We present, in this article, a new algorithm for motion compensation that uses a motion estimation method based on tangent distance. The method is compared with a BlockMatching based approach in various common situations. Whereas Block-Matching algorithms usually only predict positions of blocks over time, our method also predicts the evolution of pixels into these blocks. The prediction error is then drastically decreased. We test our method in the Theora codec and show that our algorithm can be used to improve video codec performances.

Complexity Reduction Techniques For Long-Term Memory Motion Compensated Prediction Based On Spectral Distortion Analysis

Long-term memory motion compensated prediction and up to 1⁄4-pel accurate motion compensation contribute a considerable portion of the compression gain provided by H.264/AVC over its predecessors. This paper investigates the factors contributing to the spectral distortions introduced in the digitized video signal. A quantitative analysis shows that fractional-pel interpolation is the main sourc...

Rate-constrained multihypothesis prediction for motion-compensated video compression

This article investigates linearly combined motion-compensated signals for video compression. In particular, we discuss multiple motion-compensated signals that are jointly estimated for efficient prediction and video coding. First, we extend the wide-sense stationary theory of motion-compensated prediction for the case of jointly estimated prediction signals. Our theory suggests that the gain ...

A Wavelet based Lossless Video Compression using Adaptive Prediction and Motion Approximation

There have been great interests in developing efficient video compression techniques due to the increased multimedia applications in today’s era of digital technology. In this paper, we present a technique for lossless video sequence compression using predictive coding as a method to improve the compression efficiency. The proposed algorithm is an adaptive method that switches between predictio...

Video codec incorporating block-based multihypothesis motion-compensated prediction

Multi-hypothesis prediction extends motion compensation with one prediction signal to the linear superposition of several motion-compensated prediction signals. These motion-compensated prediction signals are referenced by motion vectors and picture reference parameters. This paper proposes a state-of-the-art video codec based on the ITU-T Recommendation H.263 that incorporates multi-hypothesis...

Lossless video coding using optimal 3D prediction

In this paper, we consider the problem of lossless compression of video by taking into account temporal information. Video lossless compression is an interesting possibility in the line of production and distribution. We propose a compression technique which is based on motion compensation, optimal 3D linear prediction and context based GolombRice entropy coding. The proposed technique is compa...
